Canadian hardstyle?

WE R Music launched two new labels! Especially WE R Tomorrow made us curious – so we couldn’t help ourselves and interviewed Crisis Era, signed at WE R Tomorrow, to get a closer look!

For those who don’t want to read your whole biography. Short and sweet, who is Crisis Era? What makes you special?

We are two music producers from Vancouver, Canada. Crisis Era is our hardstyle project that we have been working on since 2012. Some things that make us unique are that we come from a country that isn’t known for hardstyle, and we are bringing a fresh sound to the scene.

What was the idea behind your name Crisis Era?

The name came to be around 2012 and all the “end of the world” hype surrounding that year. Media was going haywire with overpopulation, pollution, catastrophes of different sorts; all of which described a “crisis”. People were getting a lot more aware of the dangers the planet is facing, so in a sense we were entering a new time, “era”. It also seemed like a suitable name for a hardstyle act, and since then it kind of stuck around.

Have you ever produced other music – and if so – why hardstyle now?

Of course we fooled around with producing different things as we learned the craft. But when we finally decided to take it to the next level and get a studio and actually invest time, money and effort into it, hardstyle was our first choice to produce. If anything, only after producing hardstyle for a couple years, we were starting to deviate into different genres by experimenting with hardstyle, but also with our different alias’ for other genres.

We will never take Crisis Era to a different genre itself, but that doesn’t mean that it will be the only genre we are going to be producing. It’s healthy to expand your creativity spectrum, that way it helps to make better music all around.

WE R Tomorrow

In two years, you have already made it into WE R Tomorrow. What’s your secret?

We got extremely lucky with how things played out. There are some very key players in our life that made things possible for us, if it wasn’t for us playing at Defqon 1 Australia in 2012, we would have never met Corey in person, and maybe our friendship would not have started.

Fabian and Corey both put faith into us when we first approached them with some “average” songs. They gave us feedback and motivation to continue down the path.

And really, we thought many times about quitting and that we weren’t going to make it anywhere, but we are sure everyone has those days. It’s important to have a goal, and milestones on the way that you can tick off for little victories to keep you motivated. It is also great to have good people to support you while you’re still learning.

Which is also why WE R is such a great team, it is a family here, and even if you start to fall off the path, there is someone to help you up again. It all boils down to one thing, if you want it- don’t give up on it. It doesn’t just apply to music, it applies to anything in life.

What are you expecting from WE R Tomorrow?

We chose to join the WE R Family because we think it is the perfect platform for us to spread our music and grow as artists. All of the artists are backed by a great team here, and we have no doubt there will be some more amazing talents joining us soon!

I hope the talents of ‘WE R Tomorrow’ will be the ambassadors of a new generation of producers.‘, Brennan Heart. Do you think that you can fulfill these expectations?

We don’t know what the future has in store for the scene, but what we do know is that our style is very unique and our tracks are never the same. So no matter what direction the scene takes, we will be right there in the forefront!

Releases and Music

Are there any exclusive news, you can provide us with? Releases or Feat.?

Well, recently we were announced at a couple big shows in Europe coming up over the few months, having the opportunity to share the stage with our label mates Code Black & Outbreak at HDE Live is awesome on its own.

On the down-low, we do have some collabs planned, even started at this point, but we can’t share with who yet. And of course, we always have 3 – 4 songs in the making all the time, so stay tuned for plenty more music from us 🙂 , we think it’s going to be a good year!

By the way: with which artist would you like to do a featuring?

To be honest, we aren’t picky with who we make songs with. If there is chemistry between us, as people, then there’s no reason for not doing a track together. We would do songs with anyone on our label, simply because they’re great people. And hopefully one day we will get that opportunity, but until then there’s always time to make more music on our own!

Let’s talk about your track ‘Loud’. Some people say that ‘Loud’ is just a big room house track on 150BPM. What’s your opinion?

The style is always changing, it’s ongoing progress that we simply call “the evolution of style”. What we may call “nu-style”, “big room house at 150” today, may be the norm 3 years from now. Not all of us remember the transition into the pitched kick, but there were people criticizing it.

People have nostalgic attachments to the past, whether they heard it at their first party or whatnot. Sometimes it’s hard to let go of a certain sound and embrace a new one, but it doesn’t stop evolution. “Loud” being our first release on WE R Music doesn’t label us as big room house producers, we are just experiment and aren’t scared of stepping out of the box.

There will many more different songs from us in the future, ranging in types of hardstyle. It is all hardstyle in the end.
