Defqon.1 Saturday

Let’s continue with our review about Defqon.1 2016! The Gathering already shown what the weekend will be all about! We had lots of fun, dancing our ass off to Bass Modulators, Frontliner & Max Enforcer, Ran-D, Da Tweekaz, Partyraiser and Crypsis Live for example! Saturday is the main festival day of Defqon.1, all areas are open and even more people will gather at the holy grounds! The festival will end with the obligatory and intense endshow we all love. How did we experience the Saturday, the main festival day, of Defqon.1?

Saturday – Main Festival day of Defqon.1

As we were crawling out of our tents, it was almost noon. Let’s take a fast shower, brush our teeth, have some breakfast and don’t loose time, because we had a lot of artist on our list. The festival already started as we finished eating, we gathered all our friends and walked towards the festival entrance.

Typhoon

Our first stop was the Indigo stage – Typhoon was about to play his very last set as Typhoon! He quit his old alias to start something new as Kataklism! Holy shit, we can’t wait for some new music. His latest track Total Destruction is already online on his Kataklism artist page, so better check that out.
But back to his set. It was 13:00 but Typhoon went full force, as he scratched at the 155 – 160 BPM! His devastating kicks, high screeches and fast rhythms were pounding through the speakers as if it was the closing set! That’s how you end your alias in style! By spinning all his greatest tracks like Firing with Delete, Enter the Typhoon, Glimpse of Future, Rawcore, Unknown World or Hunt or be Hunted he made the whole place go crazy.

Believe me, this set was one of the best of the whole weekend. The energy, the tempo, the whole atmosphere – it was amazing. Furthermore, the Indigo stage was already packed to its maximum, what a great last set and memories it must have been for Typhoon! We wish him all the best as Kataklism, keep it pushing buddy!

Sound Rush

From the Indigo straight to the big RED! My favorite euphoric producers were already playing since half an hour. As we arrived at the main, Sound Rush had 20 minutes left and they managed to made them so beautiful! These guys will have a bright future, if they continue with this quality, not only in their production, but also set wise. As usual their set was a mix of their own tracks, but also packed with good old classics. We arrived perfectly during their brand new track Lifetime and we think, that will be one of our favorite tracks of the whole year. They also played a Headhunterz mash up, the happy hardcore remix of Take me Back or Frontliners In Qontrol anthem 2010, Safe Exit Planet!

So, putting euphoric tracks into a happy hardcore remix is the new thing now? If you ask me, its way to funny when Da Tweekaz or now Sound Rush plays a happy hardcore remix in between. It kind of breaks the straight red line of the set, but in a good way! We want to hear more of that!

We also heard the beginning of Code Blacks set, who started right with Accelerate and Red Planet. After that he went more into Hard Drop and Freestyle beats as usual, really didn’t like that! I wonder how his set turned out, because we left at that point, straight to the Black for N-Vitral Live!

N-Vitral Live

Our first live act of this day! Personally I couldn’t wait for it. We already received his album and all I can say is, that rawstyle and hardcore and merging more and more. But you can find out what his album is all about real soon! To go back to his set, he actually started really slow, just like the tracks from his new album. I would guess at 155 BPM. The kicks weren’t even that distorted as you are used to when listening to hardcore. But the people were going crazy, so did we!

His set build up was nearly perfect, as he went harder and faster track by track. I’m not that much in his music as I could tell you details about the tracks he dropped, but he definitely played a lot of albums tracks like his collab with Angerfist, older tracks like Noise Pumper, Crispy Bassdrum or the collab with Warface. I missed his Hardshock anthem, but still a nice set though. It was my first time attending a N-Vitral set and all I can say is, that it was definitely worth and fun to watch and listen to. The mix was flawless and he managed to build up a really strong feeling of excitement and tension.

Regain & Warface

From the Black to the Blue as we wanted to attend Warface’s set! Regain was still playing and we arrived during Broken. What a great atmosphere. Thankfully the Blue wasn’t packed compared to Friday and we found a nice spot, with lots of space to go crazy. Regain ended his set in style by playing his hard techno track – damn, can we please have a preview of that?

Next up was Warface and what shall I say? He made the crowd go crazy, almost burned down the Blue area, played a lot of new tracks and went full force by playing at 155 – 160 BPM! Crazy set as he started with Art of War, went over to his collab with Mark with A K, continued with D-Sturbs Menace remix and a new track with D-Sturb. He also dropped To Wage War, his new collab with B-Front called Pandemonium, Mash Up 5.0 and Mash Up 6.0. He also played two new War Force tracks, Warzone, his collab with Luna, Rebelion and Malice Confronting Evil, Rooler’s Damnation and finally last but not least Release the Kraken! As you see, it was a hell of a ride and his set didn’t feel like one hour.

Angerfist Live

Second live act of the and we are back at the Black. Noize Suppressor were still playing and delivered a great show – at least in the 20 minutes we saw them. But we were here for no one else than Angerfist live! Time to shake our ass to some fast beats by the masked hardcore legend itself!
He started faster and harder than expected, as the second track was The Deadfaced Dimension followed by Raise and Revolt! His Live set was again a ride through his latest tracks from his two albums. We didn’t miss any sick track and were totally satisfied by his fast mixing, powerful tracks and the great atmosphere we’re used to! He also played Temple of Disease, his recent collab with N-Vitral, Street Fighter, Fight with Anger and ended with Caveman.

As you might think, well that’s his normal live set build up and we can’t deny that, but it’s still and always lots of fun! Still I think he plays a little too much as his live act, since we see him live at Dominator and Airforce again. I think a short pause could be really good. He can concentrate on new music and then strike back with his live act. Otherwise it will become boring – rather stay exclusive with your live act!

Bass Modulators

We didn’t want to miss this set at the RED! After a longer break, where we grabbed one of the tastiest shit we’ve ever eaten – we are talking about the Pulled Pork Sandwich here – we went towards the mainstage of Defqon.1! It was actually less packed as expected, so we could stand in the middle without problems and still lots of space. Some raindrops couldn’t hold us back from dancing the anthem creators this year – Bass Modualtors!

Starting with Shadows, just like at Qlimax 2015, the set was a mix of well-known tracks by Bass Modulators, obviously, but also some unexpected tracks like Ran-D’s #MyWay or E-Force and Luna’s Underground Tacticz. After shadows the anthem was placed, Let Me See Ya and Les Drums in the Technoboy remix! Continuing with The World is Yours, Radiance and Rock Hypnotic by Scope DJ Noisecontrollers hopped on stage and they played Solar together! By the way, the atmosphere was crazy, all people were singing along the tracks, were clapping their hands and going fully mental during the set. Furthermore, they played Caramba by The Prophet, which turned out to be such a crazy track and songs like Faster n Further or Unite, the Defqon.1 anthem 2011. We’d say it was a diverse set, it was really good and had a nice flow and mix, especially because of some unexpected tracks in between, but we also need to admit, that we would have loved to experience their set without Noisecontrollers on stage.

Delete VIP

Back to the Blue as Gunz for Hire were still playing and delivering an awesome show as always! The Blue was really packed and the atmosphere amazing. After their set a lot of people left the place, which was really unexpected. Too sad for them, since they pretty much missed the best set of the whole weekend! Yes, Delete VIP is the fucking craziest quality shit you can experience!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Like, this is seriously the only thing we can say about his set! A fucking high tension rollercoaster ride through his discography, packed into 30 minutes, with mash ups, edits and an immense tempo, that his set felt like 5 minutes! It’s the third appearance of Delete VIP and all we can say is, that this is the fucking best live act you can witness, at the moment most energetic artist you can witness, the hardest act you can witness and the most unique sets you can witness!

Seriously, Delete VIP is the SHIT! The mix was flawless, the well know tracks made you sing along, the ground shaking kicks gave you Goosebumps everywhere, the live edits left you speechless and the atmosphere blew you away! If you think he started things slowly, then fuck you, because Delete VIP once again state clear who’s the motherfucking boss in the scene. He dropped tracks like Enforce the Beat in an edit, Mutants in the Malice remix and in an edit, Genocide in a new edit, he changed the kick of The Baddest and even the whole melody and anti-climax part.

He dropped an edit of The Curse, The End and Beheaded! His whole fucking set was ONE BIG TRACK! Not a single cool down, not a single boring main part, not a single boring melody part, no time to rest, perfectly mixed and edited live – that’s what we call the perfect live act! Thank you Delete, keep up this quality!

B-Front & Radical Redemption

Thankfully we got some rest on the way to the mainstage after Delete VIP. B-Front never fails to amaze, so he didn’t this time. A fully packed mainstage, B-Front’s mysterious sounds and an incredible atmosphere made this set worth to visit. Thankfully B-Front played a few new tracks, not only by singles, but also a new B-Freqzs track. The whole set sounded amazing and his new tracks lift you up. Just imagine you’re standing in front of the Defqon.1 mainstage and his massive leads of Undiscovered, Dark Moon, Lost, Mysterias or his new tunes came up – awesome feeling!

After B-Front the beast was about to drop a sick live set at the big RED mainstage! We couldn’t wait and he didn’t disappoint! Radical Redemption Live delivered a fast and intense set, as he went through his best tracks and put them into a 30 minutes ride. We think this was one of the hardest endings ever heard at the mainstage of Defqon.1. As he started with The One Man Army, over to Masterblade, Brutal 3.0, Brutal 5.0, Retaliate with Hate, Hell & Raise, a remix of Scrap Attack, Suicide Bassline, Scream with Miss K8 or Bring us some with Destructive Tendencies! Hell yeah! A highly appreciated ending of the main festival day of Defqon.1!

Defqon.1 Weekend Festival 2016 | Day Report | Saturday

The stages, decoration and show

As you might know, we didn’t like last year’s Defqon.1 stages. They felt uninspired and not fitting, especially the UV stage last year, was one of the ugliest stages in history. We were glad as we walked around the whole festival ground and saw what the Defqon.1 team delivered this year!

Starting with the Blue, as this one seriously one of our favorite designs! I couldn’t even imagine that you can hang up such a cool shit from the roof in a fucking tent as they did in the Blue! It kind of reminded us of Qlimax 2014, as the construction could move up and down and almost looked like a backbone (of a Dragon?!), ending at the neck (the stage itself). It was definitely one of the highlights, when talking about the stage designs.

The Black felt a little boring compared to the Blue and the rest, as the whole tent was decorated with black banners and white stripes on it. The stage was kind of a pyramid, covered in black banners with the exact same stripes. Somehow it looked a bit like a big spider web. What we loved about this area? Definitely the fire in front of the stage and the uncountable stroboscopes in the area!

The big RED mainstage was crazy! We loved the design! Two dragons, one red one, one blue one meet in the middle and curved themselves around the big Defqon.1 logo! On the sides the dragon’s tails were fading out. We loved it at first sight! The details were amazing and I think the stage belongs to one of the most creative ones we’ve ever seen! Packed with tons of lights and lasers, fire and more it was one of our favorite Defqon.1 stages and topped last year’s boring mainstage thousand times. It again felt huge and ostentatious! This is a Defqon.1 mainstage from the books, perfectly fitting the topic and the festival!

Defqon.1 Weekend Festival 2016 | Official Saturday Endshow

Also worth to mention the awesome UV stage! Thanks Q-Dance, that’s an UV how we like it! A little like the Q-base stage in 2014, it looked like a smaller dragon, but without a head. On the sides you had huge wings and in the middle, above the DJ a huge disco ball. The design was very colourful and detailed, especially by night it was just beautiful. But also all other stages had a really nice design. The Indigo stages was more open this year, the Magenta stage slightly bigger than last year, the Yellow felt like your walking into a church, the Siler was .. well .. silver, the Ultra Violet was a big ball and the White was really creepy with its spiked heads and bloody design.

The show was awesome on all stages. Of course you can’t expect a Magenta stage packed with fire and lasers or the Indigo for example. But Q-Dance did their best to made the stages look like something special and unique, by day and by night! The bigger areas such as the Black, the Blue, the UV and the big RED offered everything a real festival needs, starting with lots of lights, lasers, moving constructions, fire Co2 and more. I really liked the fact, that actually not many LED walls were used – classic stage design was the key to success! Well done Q-Dance, big respect for such creativity and epicenes!

The end show at the mainstage of Defqon.1 after Radical Redemption live was crazy as expected, but sadly couldn’t reach previous editions. Why? It was way shorter compared to other editions, the music, seemed not fitting in our opinion – as we expect Dragonborn to be played and used. It was too much euphoric and melodic, as it would fit a topic like Dragonblood. We could have imagined that a B-Front track would fit really well. Or something like gladiator, We are the Champions, Still here like last year! Also the show was good, but could not reach last year’s intensity with the cranes and the whole show around it!But! This year’s firework was just INSANE! Holy Shit, we’ve never seen such an awesome firework during an end show! Perfectly fitting and timed Q-Dance lighted up the sky with a hell of a firework!

This was Defqon.1 2016, Saturday! We left the ground with a satisfied feeling and couldn’t wait for Sunday!
